The Foundry plays a vital role in improving your metal output by increasing the yield of mines in its host city. Not only can the Foundry be enhanced further to improve this aspect, but it also hosts supply research which increases the logistical support available to your troops in the field.

The Papal States normally begins the game with one Foundry in its initial city, thus making it a powerhouse in building towers (which use metal).
